KNEE PAIN TREATMENT

Staten Island Knee Rehab for Athletes & Active Adults
Knee pain rarely starts and ends at the knee. Hip strength, ankle mobility, training load and running or cutting mechanics all influence how the knee is loaded. Our approach looks at all of them.

At SICSR, Dr. Robert Minlionica, DC, ATC treats knee pain in runners, football, lacrosse and basketball players, lifters and active adults across Staten Island with a movement-based, evidence-based plan.

HOW WE TREAT KNEE PAIN

KNEE CONDITIONS WE SEE

  • Patellofemoral pain (runner's knee)
  • Patellar and quadriceps tendinopathy (jumper's knee)
  • IT band syndrome
  • MCL and minor ligament sprains
  • Meniscus irritation and post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Osgood-Schlatter and growth-related knee pain in young athletes

WHAT TO EXPECT

We assess how you squat, hop, land and walk, test hip and knee strength, and review your training history to find what is overloading the knee. Your plan combines hands-on treatment with a progressive strength program and clear guidelines for returning to running, jumping or cutting.

KNEE PAIN FAQ

Should I stop running if my knee hurts?

Not always. Many running-related knee problems respond to adjusting volume, cadence and strength work rather than complete rest. We help you find the level that lets the knee calm down while staying active.

Do you treat kids and teens with knee pain?

Yes. Growth-related knee pain is common in young athletes and usually responds well to load management and strengthening.

Can shockwave therapy help jumper's knee?

Shockwave therapy is one of the options we use for chronic patellar tendinopathy, typically combined with a progressive loading program. Learn more on our shockwave therapy page.

When can I return to sport?

We use strength, hop and movement tests, not just time, to decide. See our return-to-sport rehabilitation page.
